Google adds desktop image extensions

In December 2021, Google announced the expansion of its image extension functionality. Over the course of the last few weeks of the year, the format previously reserved for mobile devices was extended to include coverage of desktop search too.

We see this as a positive change for the PPC space, as any opportunity to differenciate ads on the page is a chance to stand out against competitors.

Our recommended approach is to provide at least 3 individual relevant image assets per extension, and despite relatively strict design guidelines the opportunity to use this new visual space on desktop creatively is definitely worth investigating.
